WHY YOU SHOULD “TRAIN” EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT AN ATHLETE

Simple. Just start training.

When we say, “I have to work out” it makes exercise sound like a chore.

People see exercise as a task they have to check off their list, right next to grocery shopping and doing the laundry. What you do not realize is that your work outs are training sessions.

You are training for LIFE.

I have had clients come to me with a variety of exercise experience. One client came to me post-MVA who used to be a professional swimmer. Another came to me who has never lifted a dumbbell or exercised in her life.

Guess which one had an easier time with their recovery?

Your training sessions (yes, they ARE training sessions) are training you for your life. Having a strong exercise foundation is only going to help you.

Let’s take a look at an example,

Proprioception or body awareness is the ability to recognize where your body is in space. Your muscles and joints send your brain information about your body and how it moves.

This is one of the first things I must teach someone who isn’t used to moving their body. Coordination, balance, and knowing where your body is in space comes natural to people who grew up playing sports or spending time in the gym. If you do not have this, your recovery from injuries, in my opinion, may be more difficult. Now, I am not saying you need to walk around with a helmet on because something bad might happen to you and you need to prepare. I am just saying making time to exercise, or “train”, is only going to help you in the long run.

Let us face it, a lot of us are going to get old. Our joints are going to creak. Our bone density is going to decrease. We might need to eventually walk with a cane.

Exercising now is only going to improve your quality of life later down the line.

It is so much more than “weight loss” and “looking fit”. It is your life. You are training for life.
